Foodbank Hunger Report 2021

Foodbank Australia has revealed one in six Australian adults haven’t had enough to eat in the last year. On top of this, 1.2 million children have gone hungry during the same period.

It also shows that more than half of people impacted by severe food insecurity go a whole day every week without eating.

COVID-19 continues to impact the life of Australia’s most vulnerable. More than one in three Australians (38%) who were food insecure during the last year had never experienced food insecurity prior to the pandemic.

In spite of best efforts, food relief is still not reaching many Australians who need it.

The Foodbank Hunger Report is an annual spotlight on food insecurity in Australia bringing together Foodbank’s research and on-the-ground information and observations.

Road to 1 MILLION Meals!

Make A Difference Community is now on the road to fund its 1,000,000th meal!

We have seen a dramatic increase in requests from our local food banks and food pantries. Sadly, the demand is very real and unfortunately due to Covid is growing.

We are extremely happy that we have been able to provide these meals to families in desperate need. This would not have been possible without the help of our incredible members, partners and supporters.

A BIG win for all of us.

Thanks to SecondBite for acknowledging our efforts and a greater thanks to our members for making this possible. We cannot wait to see what we can achieve in 2022.

Late last year we decided to promote Kenshi Candles through schools and childcares to buy food for homeless people and families in need. Kenshi was created by a 14 yr old Aussie boy who wanted to change the world. So far, there has been around 3,500 candles sold allowing us to donate more than 5 tonnes of pasta for families in Australia and provide money for 6 children to be taken off the streets in The Philippines and fed and educated for 12 months. HUGE THANK-YOU for all the school and childcare staff, parents, family and friends who have supported this cause. Particularly during Covid, we are amazed at the generosity and support provided. We look forward to our next big food drive in 2022 with Kenshi life-changing candles.

Huge shout out to one of our founding members Steve Burke of Belle Property Glen Iris; 16,950kg of pasta donated over the last 12 months, enough for 135k meals. Thanks Steve and your awesome team on behalf of tens of thousands of Australian families.

Massive Milestone for Make A Difference Community

A massive milestone for Make a Difference Community, 50 tonnes of pasta donated helping make 400,000 meals for homeless and families in need.

Our goal is 100 tonnes for 2021. Huge thanks to all our clients, partners and MADC members.

Another 5.2 Tonnes of Pasta and 700 KG of Rice for Charities

This week marks an incredible achievement for us as the largest ever order of pasta has been delivered!

11 pallets x 480kg = 5,280 kg of pasta enough to create around 40,000 meals

Another 700kg of Basmati rice have also been delivered to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) warehouse.

It is a massive amount of food and all funded by our community members.

We are so grateful for all our clients’ and partners’ support over this very difficult year and looking forward to helping make a massive impact next year and the year after.

Another 4 Pallets of Pasta ordered for our Charity Partners

Make a Difference Community is excited to order another 4 pallets of pasta from LaManna Supermarket and Bonfood Divella to be donated to our food charity partners Foodbank Victoria, FareShare, SecondBite, Father Bob Maguire Foundation and Melbourne Tautoko Whanau.

In the last 8 weeks we have donated 5.8 tonnes; total is 44.4 tonnes making 355,360 meals.

Our Community membership is growing quickly and we welcome like-minded companies who want to connect.

Partnership with Maid to Clean

From Maid To Clean:

Maid to Clean is a proud member of the Make A Difference Community. Together with other likeminded businesses, we have now purchased and delivered over 40 tonnes of pasta to several incredible charities. We do things a little bit different here at Maid to Clean… We’re not just a cleaning company, we are a group of people passionate about making the world a better place.

By booking a cleaning service with us, you are helping to eradicate hunger in Australia! Opening the door to a beautifully clean house makes us all feel grateful. With Maid to Clean, you can also relax while knowing a meal has been provided to a person in Melbourne each time we have attended your home.

Over the next 12 months we will directly fund at least 40,000 meals for families and disadvantaged people in Melbourne. Many of these people are not lucky enough to live in a permanent home. We believe there is no place for hunger in a wealthy country like Australia. By giving back a little every time we have the privilege of cleaning your house, we truly believe we can eradicate hunger in Australia forever.
